The Bibliographic Databases of CSIC are the main Spanish resource for searching all kind of articles, book chapters and other documents published in Spain. CSIC offers three databases: ISOC (Social Sciences and Humanities), ICYT (Science and Technology) and IME (Biomedical Sciences). A complete bibliographic description is offered for each item and the most of them include an abstract. Finally, you can link many full text documents directly from the results page. This guide was written by the Library of University of Malaga in order to support the activities on information literacy and for promote the use of this Spanish Databases.

Magellan is an innovative project whose aim is to evaluate and validate the digital & information literacy skills of university students. A quizz allows students to self-check their level of knowledge, and several online ressources are provided to help them to improve their competencies. The end of the pilot phase is scheduled for 2013, with the objectives to finalize a certificate which could take the shape of an e-portfolio.

Ce document présente de façon claire et didactique les fonctionnalités de PubMed. C'est un excellent outil d'initiation à une recherche efficace sur cette banque de données. Il doit bien sur être complété par un connaissance du MESH (Medical Subject Headings), thésaurus du domaine médical.

UNL205x (Information Literacy) is a one credit quarter course designed to acquaint you with the processes of finding, organizing, using, producing, and distributing information in print, electronic, and other formats in a wide variety of academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. You will learn about the flow of information, how to be effective at the research process, how to access information in a variety of formats, and how to formulate effective searches on electronic databases and the Internet. You will also be taught how to evaluate the quality of Web-based and print information, and will become familiar with practical, social and ethical issues relating to information. UNL206x (Information Literacy in the Sciences) is very similar to UNL205x in that is also a one credit quarter course, but it is designed with the student of the natural and physical sciences in mind. Because researching in the natural and physical sciences is often very different than in the humanities and social sciences, we are offering UNL206x to address the complex and unique information literacy issues that arise in the pure science disciplines.

Academic integrity is becoming very important today as students use the Internet as their first stop for information and research. Students Google it, then 'copy and paste' not realising that this constitutes plagiarism and could result in them failing. This is an intervention course that introduces students to the dangers of plagiarism and teaches them ways and techniques to avoid plagiarism such as note-taking, paraphrasing, and citation. Students will learn the two commonly used citation styles, MLA and APA. Hands-on practice activities are provided throughout this course to engage the learner

This course provides you with an insight into five of the essential tools you might want to consider for your project work. Understand more about the what, why, when, where, and how such tools can jazz up your project. This course also addresses the critical question of how to evaluate information on new media tools.

This course aims to equip participants with the searching skills and techniques on how to use the Internet more efficiently to get quality websites. Using a hands-on approach, participants will learn how to formulate search strategies, evaluate websites and cite the websites used using appropriate citation styles.
This course is specially designed for teachers who wish to learn how to use the Internet as an effective research tool more effectively. Participants will be introduced to advanced search techniques to retrieve relevant websites efficiently. Participants will also learn to apply evaluation criteria to ascertain authoritativeness of information from websites. The importance of citing and acknowledging resources using appropriate techniques is also included to help participants avoid the dangers of plagiarism.
